What better way to spend your Friday off than with your family taking in all the beauty and charm of Dubai? Forget the heat and head down to the Dubai creek and jump on board the Bateaux Dubai for their family Friday brunch. This is a brunch with a difference, once on board the heat is forgotten but the entertainment and fun have just begun. The Bateaux Dubai is a true display of the wonders that are all around us in this special city.
This boat has all the luxuries of a five star restaurant with the added beauty of a 360-degree view of the Dubai creek. If you are someone who at times is a little unsure about being on a boat due to the rocking motion, than this boat is a dream come true for you. The Bateaux Dubai I am told is a flat-bottomed boat designed for waters just like the creek, the boat remains in the creek waters during your journey and does not enter the open water of the sea. Believe me if I had not seen the boat moving away from the wall I would have had no idea we were moving. The smoothness of this floating restaurant allows you to freely move around and enjoy your time on board. From the moment you board to the moment you leave the friendly and very helpful staff are there to make your day special.
The feeling that comes over you as you enter this boat is one of complete relaxation. The space is open, airy and extremely elegant the look is one of complete style. There are two levels of dinning but from no matter where you sit you are destined to have a breath taking view. In the center on the boat stands a beautiful piano where Natali Kazanceva not only entertains you with you beautiful music but also enchants you with her soothing voice. To accompany her on the violin is the equally as talented Elena Chernyavskaya who makes her instrument look so easy to use. Together these two young ladies complete the elegant and relaxing atmosphere we are to enjoy and savor the entire journey. There is just as much fun aboard this cruise for the children as Andy Stuart takes them on a journey into the realms of mystery with his magic show, juggling and balloon sculptures. His lashings of comedy will not only enthrall the children but also the adults who were just as amazed with tricks
and his humor.
The difference of this on board meal is the wonder of knowing that it has been created on the boat rather than bought to the boat and served. There can never be a shortage of food on this boat as the fully functioning kitchen is onboard. This is a true display of how Dubai can do anything in style.
The menu gives you two options, one to eat only from the vast buffet selection or to include something from the extensive A la Carte eggs menu that also gives you a variety of side orders.
Eggs are always my favorite things to indulge in on a Friday as you have that extra time to not only prepare but also to enjoy. So it was not at all hard for us to decide where to begin our meal, the hard part was settling on how to have them cooked. Would it be Scrambled, Poached, Baked, Boiled or perhaps an Omelet? With at least three different dishes for each style of cooking you truly are spoilt for choice.
I choose an Emmental Cheese Omelet stuffed with Spinach. The Omelet was light and fluffy with a mild cheese taste blended with the subtle taste of fresh spinach. This was truly a great way to wake up my taste buds and have them eager to enjoy more. For those of you who are lovers of scrambled eggs how about Salmon scrambled eggs with toasted bread? Sound like a good way to start your Friday!
If you fancy some side orders with your eggs than there are beef sausages, chicken sausages, beef bacon, grilled tomatoes and roast potatoes, but whatever you do make sure you leave room for the other taste sensations that await you at the front of the boat on the buffet.
If you are a lover of seafood than you are really going to enjoy the individual shrimp cocktails that are served in the tall glass, as well as the many other cold appetizers like Smoked Salmon with condiments, Pasta Salad with Ratatouille and Russian Salad just to name a few. It really is hard to believe at times that all this beautiful food is being prepared fresh just below us as we sail the still waters of the creek.
No table would be complete in this part of the world without a selection of Arabic delicacies such as Fatoush, Moutable, Stuffed Vine leaves, Hommus and my favirot Taboulleh.
Right next door to the Arabic corner is the rather impressive selection of cold cuts, roasts and homemade Chicken Terrine all beautifully displayed to catch your eye.
For main course there is for your pleasure a selection of boiled vegetables, grilled Salom with garden Spinach, Roasted Hammour with a Tartare sauce that almost made me feel homesick it was so good. The Lasagna “al forno” was a rich blend of a home style true Italian Lasagna. if it is Chicken you fancy than you will find a selection of two different kinds, Chicken Asian style and Chicken Kaju.
Now who could forget the traditional Sunday roast? Here you can enjoy the true pleasure of this family tradition with all the trimmings like roast baby potatoes on a Friday afternoon sailing on board a luxury restaurant.
For dessert you can indulge in one of the many creations that have again been prepared on board the boat like Apple pie, Chocolate brownies, fresh fruit salad and Um Ali. For the kids there is a stunning selection of individual child size cakes with character icings that looked just too good to eat.
The Bateaux Dubai begins boarding every Friday at 11.30am and will sail at 12.30pm once on board you can being you meal even before the boat sets sail. The boat returns at around 2pm, but you are welcome to remain on board until 3pm.
If this sounds like your idea to a perfectly relaxing Friday than you like me are in for a wonderful treat. There could be no better way to enjoy the sunshine and beauty of Dubai than from the luxury of this floating wonder. by Kerry Leigh
