The Dubai Tennis Championships is part of the ATP and WTA tennis tours and is governed by the UAE Tennis Association and organized by the Dubai Duty Free Aviation Club Tennis Centre. The yearly tennis tournament started in 1993 and is set near the time of the Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai Desert Classic, and the Dubai World Cup. The tournament was previously known as the Dubai Tennis Open.

Since 1996, the tennis event has been held at the Dubai Tennis Stadium which contains a 5,000 seat center court, a VIP area, and a Royal enclosure. The stadium also hosts various music concerts and entertainment events.

The yearly tennis tournament happens in February and March attracts the world's top male and female players. The Dubai Tennis Championships 2005 was held from February 21st to March 5th. Ticket prices cost between Dhs. 30 and Dhs. 160, while Grand Stand seats are on a first come first serve basis.
