The
Sharjah Ramadan Festival (SRF) was started in 1991 by the
government of Sharjah and is managed by the Sharjah Chamber
of Commerce and Industry (SCCI). The festival is intended
to promote Sharjah as being a major cultural and entertainment
centre, in addition to being an important business and investment
hub in the Middle East. The festival provides entertainment
for the whole family and allows consumers to get bargain prices
on everything during the festival season.
The shopping festival begins a few days before
the beginning of the holy month of Ramadhan and lasts for
6 to 7 weeks. When shoppers spend over Dhs. 100 from participating
outlets, they get a coupon, which they can win with during
the daily raffle draws. The various Sharjah shopping malls
also have separate promotions during the shopping event.![Sharjah Ramadan Festival [SRF] Lamppost Hanging](../images/events/srf_en_sm.jpg)
The event also creates hotspots around Sharjah,
for various cultural and entertainment events. The three main
spots include China Town and Arabic Village at the Khalid
Lagoon, as well as the Asian Village at Rolla Square. Also
during the event, 20 percent of revenues made during the festival
are donated to charity, to support orphans.
Sponsors of the event include Etisalat, Adnoc,
Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority
(SEWA), and Sharjah City Centre. The event has also been known
to be sloganed in Arabic as 'Ahlan Ramadan' and in English
as 'Welcome Ramadan'. The Sharjah Ramadan Festival happens
around the same time as the Dubai
City That Cares. http://www.srf.ae/
